procr-u-stination
The brutal metaphor of the Procrustes myth—in which a traveler is forcibly “adjusted” to fit the dimensions of a bed—suggests the absurd attempt to confine creative energy within fixed frames. This coercion is countered by procrastination, understood as passivity, constant delay, and avoidance of being “framed in.” These two states serve as starting points for reflecting on the boundaries of contemporary art.
In the exhibition “procr-u-stination,” two artists search for answers to canonical questions posed by the field of art: What is an artwork? Where do its boundaries lie? Does an artwork require a physical body? What makes a work of art compelling? Can citation become a new work? Can the act of correction, editing, or transformation itself be considered an artistic gesture?
