Goethe-Institut collaborates with Belarusian communities in exile. The ‘Culture in Exile’ program aims to create diverse and concrete actions to practice solidarity and care between Belarusians in exile and Lithuanians.
Collective music and dance practices
Amateur vocal and instrumental ensemble “Homan ” will perform several songs: protest anthem Magutny bozha, female solidarity Zyazulya, and the solidarity song Pagonia. In a karaoke format, the audience is invited to actively participate in making the space resound with songs important in the strive for a democratic Belarus.
Club of social European dances “Vałoška” holds a masterclass on different traditional dances to support the connection between Belarusians who are in forced emigration, as well as to invite audiences to experience the shared traditional dance in Belarus and Lithuania.
The city, nature, and healing practices
Vilnius-based Miensk Urban Platform hosts an interdisciplinary session that fuses learning about plants in urban space with plant swap market, storytelling, and networking. Audiences are invited to learn about the not always obvious potential of urban gardening for communal solidarity, and the value and influence of urban plants on the mental health of city residents.
Female reading and listening
Literature initiative audiobooks.by holds a book club session highlighting strong female voices in contemporary Belarusian literature. Within two hours audiences are invited to get to know different authors, discuss their topics, as well as to listen and read together.
