Summer Exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Centre

Event time: 19:00-22:00

The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) invites you to visit its new summer exhibitions – open late into the night! This season features the international group exhibition Borders Are Nocturnal Animals and the solo exhibition by artist Gerda Paliušytė. Both exhibitions opened on the eve of the Night of Culture.

‘Borders Are Nocturnal Animals’ is a joint project organised by the CAC, KADIST and Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Following its first iteration, presented simultaneously at the two Parisian institutions in autumn 2024 as part of the Lithuanian Season in France, the second chapter of the exhibition opens this summer at the CAC in Vilnius. Rooted in the geopolitical turmoil caused by the Russian war in Ukraine, the exhibition weaves threads between artworks included in the initial exhibitions in Paris and an extensive selection of artworks from the KADIST Collection. In this iteration, curators Neringa Bumblienė & Émilie Villez will explore the regional colonial histories of Lithuania and beyond within a broader international framework.

The exhibition ‘Expectations’ by Gerda Paliušytė, presented in the South Hall of the CAC, is a continuation of her project Guys and Blue Flowers, which has been in development for several years. Based in Vilnius, Paliušytė is interested in various documentary practices, historical and popular culture phenomena and characters, and their relationship to social reality. The artist’s films, photographs and installations often explore different forms of intimacy, as well as the magic and fragility of collective existence.
