Event time: 20:00, 20:30, 21:00, 21:30, 22:00

Gediminas Castle Tower is not only a symbol of the greatness of ancient Lithuania, but also a sign of freedom and national identity. On this tour, we invite you to learn about the history of Gediminas Castle Tower as a symbol of struggles and revival.

We will tell you about the discovery of the remains of the participants of the 1863–1864 uprising on Gediminas Hill and the significance of the uprising for our nation’s struggle for independence. We will discuss how Gediminas Castle Tower became a place that commemorates not only the power of ancient Lithuania, but also resistance to occupation. One of the most important highlights of the tour is January 1, 1919, when the tricolor fluttered for the first time on Gediminas Tower, becoming a symbol of Lithuanian independence.

You will learn about the path of this flag through history, its raising during the years of Soviet occupation and its significance for Lithuania’s national revival. The tour will also touch on one of the most memorable events of the late 20th century – the Baltic Way. It was the greatest peaceful resistance to the occupation, when millions of people joined hands from Vilnius to Tallinn, expressing unity and the desire for freedom.

Gediminas Castle Tower is a silent witness that has seen the ups and downs of Lithuania, but has always remained a symbol of hope and strength. We invite you to join the tour and explore together how this tower connects our past, present and future aspirations.
