May the Bells Toll. Culture Night in Vilnius “Varpas” Gymnasium

Step into the historic halls of the “Varpo” school, Vilnius’ oldest gymnasium for adults. Join us for a diverse array of activities, including classical music concerts, literary clubs, theatrical performances, excursions, and exhibitions curated by our dedicated educators and esteemed partners. You are warmly invited to experience the rich cultural offerings of our institution.

Event line-up:

18:00-18:30 Vilnius Bronius Jonušas Music School String Orchestra. Conductor Laurynas Vakaris Lopas. Programme: classical works.

18:30-19:00 A tour of the gymnasium premises: a visit to the gymnasium museum, exhibitions in the lobby and reading room. In the foyer of the first floor there will be exhibitions of works by members of the partner gymnasium Ribiškės community: the watercolour portrait exhibition “Ribiškės” by Romualdas Bružas and the watercolour on canvas exhibition “Dekalogas”, the exhibition of unconventional carvings by Monika Gustevičiūtė, and the exhibition of two twisted ribbons: The shortest – “Wishes to Vilnius” and the longest – the World Lithuanian Unity Band dedicated to February 16th, made by Birutė Janavičienė, a member of the Ribiškės community and a folk artist (326.47 m long), and Ingrida Giunter will invite you to see an exhibition of postcards made from flower blossoms.

18:30-19:15 A “lesson” by V. Auglytė, the Gymnasium andragogue teacher, in Room 18: an evening of literature for adults only – a reading of a text by Leonard Gutauskas (registration required).

18:45-19:15 Performance “Pandora and Hope” by the theatre troupe “Lašai” of the Vilnius Region Union of People with Disabilities, based on the Greek myth “Pandora’s Box”. Script writer and director Loreta Paulauskienė. Eleven actors with disabilities take part in the performance.

19:30-20:00 Vocal ensemble “CoCoMI”. Leader – jazz singer Rūta Švipaitė. Music of different styles.

20:30-21:30 Singing poetry concert. Performers: singer and painter Rūta Eidukaitytė and guitar virtuoso Sigitas Kubilis.
